JR: What is your favorite thing about being on the tour?
FC: My favorite thing is competing every week at the highest level and traveling the world. Tennis gives you the chance to see different cultures, play in amazing stadiums and test yourself against the best players in the world. That’s something really special.
JR: How has your newly found fame and recognition affect you when you go back to your country?
FC: In Italy people are very passionate about tennis, so I definitely feel more recognition now. It’s really nice when people stop you to say hello or support you. At the same time I try to stay very normal and focused on my work and my improvement.
JR: If you could play one player who has retired who would be?
FC: I would say Fabio Fognini. He has always been a big idol for me growing up. I watched him a lot when I was younger and I loved his creativity and his personality on the court, so playing against him in his prime would have been very special.
JR: Currently, who do you think is the hardest person to play?
FC: Right now there are many incredible players, but someone like Novak Djokovic is always extremely difficult. His level, his experience and the way he reads the game make him one of the toughest opponents you can face.
JR: If Nadal played Federer next week on clay, who would win?
FC: On clay I think I would go with Rafael Nadal. Even if they’re both legends, Rafa on clay is something unique. His intensity and the way he plays on that surface have always been incredible.
